The need to modernize the U.S. public health system has never been more important than now. Public health transformation through innovation, collaboration, and shared learning will drive the changes necessary to meet current and future public health needs. 

Partnership and collaboration between local and state health departments is essential for improving health outcomes and addressing challenges across the public health landscape. By pooling resources, expertise, and data, and sharing lessons learned, local and state health departments can develop more effective strategies for promoting and protecting the health of the communities they serve. 

This plenary session examines public health transformation efforts currently underway between local and state health departments. Against the backdrop of traditional and new public health challenges, this session will provide intentional insight, illuminating the strategies, partnerships, and innovations necessary to modernize our public health system.
